چکیده

This paper presents a general traffic separation approach to transmit HSPA traffic in the existing ATM-based UMTS network, together with Release 99 (R99) traffic. The traffic separation technique enables QoS differentiations of HSPA and R99 traffic, while at the same time aims to achieve a maximum utilization of the transport resources in the radio access network. The potential benefit of applying traffic separation and its impact on the performance of the transport network as well as the end users are explored in this paper. The quantitative evaluations are provided by means of simulations. The results presented are obtained from a UMTS simulation model developed in this work which transmits both HSPA and R99 traffic, either with traffic separation enabled or disabled.

Use of Traffic Separation Techniques for the Transport of HSPA and R99 Traffic in the Radio Access Network with Differentiated Quality of Service

This article presents various traffic separation approaches to transmit HSPA (HSDPA/HSUPA) traffic in the existing ATM-based UMTS Radio Access Network, together with Release 99 (R99) traffic. The traffic separation technique enables QoS differentiations of HSPA and R99 traffic, while aiming to achieve a maximum utilization of the transport resources in the radio access network. The potential be...

Highly scalable on-the-fly interleaved address generation for UMTS/HSPA+ parallel turbo decoder

High throughput parallel interleaver design is a major challenge in designing parallel turbo decoders that conform to high data rate requirements of advanced standards such as HSPA+. The hardware complexity of the HSPA+ interleaver makes it difficult to scale to high degrees of parallelism. We propose a novel algorithm and architecture for on-the-fly parallel interleaved address generation in U...

Testing HSPA+

High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) optimize UMTS for packet data services in the downlink and uplink, respectively. Together, they are referred to as High Speed Packet Access (HSPA). Within 3GPP Release 7, 8, 9 and 10, further improvements to HSPA have been specified in the context of HSPA+ or HSPA evolution. This Application Note describes how...

UMTS/HSPA/GSM/GPRS/EDGE RF Transceiver LSI for Multimode/Multiband Communication MB86L01A

We have developed RF transceiver LSI “MB86L01A,”which supports the GSM, GPRS, and EDGE communication methods for second-generation cell phones and the UMTS and HSPA communication methods for third-generation cell phones. It mounts a 3G DigRF interface on 1 chip. By adopting a low-noise circuit utilizing our rich digital circuit technology as a built-in circuit, it no longer requires the externa...
